Minimum of 2 years of experience as a medical assistant. Experience in a fast-paced clinical environment. Familiarity with cosmetic and reconstructive surgery procedures preferred. Bilingual skills are preferred. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and work across multiple satellite locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care

  • Prepare examination rooms according to the day's physician schedule.
  • Take patient history, perform clinical triage, and provide concise reports to physicians.
  • Assist with examinations and minor procedures.
  • Review pre-operative instructions and ensure patient understanding.
  • Care for post-operative patients (suture removal, dressing changes, casts) and answer patient questions.
  • Administer or prepare medications and treatments per surgeon protocols.
  • Obtain photographic consent and take pre- and post-operative images, including Vectra 3-D.
  • Triage patient phone calls, address questions, and manage emergency communications per physician preferences.
  • Follow up on pathology and laboratory results and ensure proper documentation in EMR.
  • Prepare and log specimens accurately.

Clinical Operations

  • Ensure EMR documentation is complete and compliant with practice guidelines.
  • Maintain clinical supplies, check expiration dates, rotate inventory, and inform nursing staff of ordering needs.
  • Sterilize and organize equipment and prep rooms; ensure rooms are fully stocked.
  • Participate in clinical research projects under the direction of the Clinical Trials Department.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and AAAASF standards.
  • Review physician schedules to maximize efficiency and coordinate workflow improvements with the Director of Nursing and Office Charge Nurse.

Communication & Professionalism

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Interact respectfully and utilize a solution-based approach for problem-solving.
  • Share knowledge gained from continuing education with co-workers.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives (PQRS, MIPS, Meaningful Use, and other regulatory programs).

Patient Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all LIPSG policies regarding patient safety and infection control.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or procedures.
  • Promote patient involvement in care and encourage questions.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements and standards of care.

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Full range of body motion required, including lifting patients and objects up to 30 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other clinic-related hazards.
  • Must work under stressful conditions and potentially irregular hours.

Access to PHI

  • Extensive access to Protected Health Information (PHI) for clinical and administrative duties.
  • Responsible for maintaining confidentiality and security of all patients and NYPSG information.

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program or a more advanced healthcare training program.
  • Certification required (Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or equivalent).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) through American Heart Association (AHA) required.

Location: On-site at our New York City practice located at 1040 Park Ave, New York, NY 10028, with one designated workday per week at our Brooklyn practice located at 86 St. Felix St, 11th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11217

Compensation: $26.00-$28.00
