Job Summary

Responsible for functioning as a Patient Services Associate (PSA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), and Referral Coordinator; PSA responsible for assisting with general clerical duties such a registration, insurance verification, and updating demographics; CMA responsible for duties such as taking vital signs, assisting with procedures, and processing referrals. Maintain a professional, positive and caring attitude at all times.

Take accurate messages and relay to appropriate person as quickly as possible.

Register all presenting members, verifying and updating all information to complete demographic and billing statistics and ensure member is properly placed in EMR tracking.

Ensure verification of insurance is documented in appropriate template as per direction of supervisor.

Scan insurance cards into Next Gen.

Collect/post applicable copays on the members account.

Address and document outstanding debt alerts.

Print and balance batch reports at the end of each shift.

Cancel and reschedule members as necessary and document cancellations in EPM.

Schedule same-day or follow-up appointments when applicable by following appropriate guidelines.

Maintain neat, clean and professional-looking work areas.

Interact professionally and respectfully with members, co-workers and supervisors.

This position requires that the Employee abide by the Company's Compliance Plan (including its Standards of Conduct) and all Compliance Policies and Procedures (as listed on the Company's Intranets or Internet pages under Compliance). This position further requires the Employee to act with the highest standards of integrity and professional ethics. This would include but is not limited to the expectation and requirement that the Employee immediately report any potential Compliance, Security or Privacy, or potential Fraud?Waste?Abuse violations or issues to the Company's Compliance Officer, Compliance Hotline, and/or to any Officer of the Company.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Assist members to exam rooms and obtain complete and accurate vital signs.

Administer medications per scope of practice; Adhering to five rights of medication administration.

Obtain and document all pertinent information in each member's chart/EMR record.

Anticipate, assist and perform procedures ordered by the provider.

Maintain timely member flow and room availability.

Reinforce member education and participate in member teaching.

Stock and maintain exam rooms, nursing stations and individual work stations.

Participate in unit duties such as, cleaning and sterilizing instruments and ordering supplies.

Maintain a current and accurate surgical log, procedure log, lab log, and member tickler files, as appropriate.

Maintain and monitor all equipment used for member care and testing. Report any discrepancy to supervisor.

Assist with training and orientation of new personnel.

Actively participate in nursing QI by identifying problems, providing solutions and evaluating outcomes.

Ensure appropriate handling and accurate documentation of all medications ordered by the provider.

Ensure accurate and timely follow-through with all referrals generated.

Utilize computers as they pertain to the job at hand.

Exercise universal precautions in all member care.

Exhibit competency in all aspects of member care provided in Urgent Care department.

Follow and adhere to HSMG's standards of attendance policy, as it is pertinent to be available to assist nursing staff and to deliver optimal efficient care to our members by providing excellent customer service and ensuring HSMG's promises are fulfilled to all members.

Present referrals for approval to Utilization Review Committee. Notify Urgent Care provider of any changes or denials.

Notify patients regarding denial and modifications of services.

Notify patients of approved referrals and scheduling information.

Code referrals according to ICD-10 CM/CPT codes.

Input referral data and print authorization for all approved referrals.

Assist patients in resolving questions/problems.

Organize workload and workflow process in the department to ensure referrals are processed timely.

Assist insurance companies regarding patient referrals.

Assist primary care physician office on status of referrals.

Be available to coworkers as a resource in the department.

Follow and adhere to HSMG's standards of attendance policy, as it is pertinent to be available to process referrals and notify patients regarding modifications, denials, or scheduling of referrals.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting - typing, filing, phone work, etc. - frequency - 40 % or more.

Standing - at copier, etc. - frequency - less than 40%.

Walking - to and from within the building, examination rooms, laboratory, etc. - frequency- less than 20%

Lifting - 0 to 60 lbs.: office supplies, members, medical equipment and medical supplies etc. - frequency - approximately 20%.

Bending, stooping and squatting delivering member care, etc. frequency - approximately 10%.

Reaching above head to 75 degrees - frequency - approximately 10%.

Hand/grip dexterity administrating medications/injections, holding medical instruments, writing, typing, filing, phone work, etc. - frequency - approximately 35%.

Pushing, Pulling, Transporting - members by wheelchair/gurney up to 20%.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $21.00 and $21.50 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
