Material Handler

We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Material Handler to support our growing manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely moving raw materials including steel bar, plate, and other production materials throughout the facility using forklifts and other material handling equipment. This position plays a critical role in keeping production running smoothly by ensuring materials are received, stored, and delivered accurately and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts and other powered industrial trucks safely and efficiently.
• Move steel materials (bar stock, plate, tubing, etc.) throughout the facility.
• Load and unload incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Stage materials for production according to job travelers and schedules.
• Verify materials against packing slips and purchase orders.
• Maintain accurate inventory counts and complete required documentation.
• Ensure proper storage of steel and raw materials to prevent damage.
• Assist with cycle counts and inventory audits.
• Maintain a clean and organized warehouse and production support area.
• Follow all safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.

Essential Skills

• Previous forklift experience required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an active shop environment.
• Basic computer skills for inventory tracking.
• Ability to read job travelers, packing slips, and material certifications.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience handling steel materials in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
• Experience in a precision machining or manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with inventory systems and ERP experience.
• Understanding of safe steel storage and material identification practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
