Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) is an educated, licensed health care provider who assists the Physical Therapist (PT) in the provision of Physical Therapy services. The PTA may perform Physical Therapy procedures and related tasks and projects that have been selected and delegated by the Supervising PT and or Rehabilitation Department Director, in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of Watsonville Community Hospital. The PTA may also carry out routine operational functions in addition to the treatment of patients and associated documentation, including clerical support tasks, facility maintenance, billing entry, quality improvement, and staff education. The ability of the PTA to perform the selected and delegated tasks shall be assessed on an ongoing basis by the supervising Physical Therapist. The PTA may modify a specific treatment procedure in accordance with changes in patient status, and within the scope of the established treatment plan.
Salary range: $40 to $43 per hour
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited program (Junior College) or successful passing of licensure exam (California). Current California State licensure required.
- New graduates of an accredited program may work until receipt of licensure, with 100% on site supervision and signature of all documentation by a licensed Physical Therapist.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR Certification, or obtained during probationary period
Experience:
- Prefer 6 months prior work experience within the last two years.
- Understanding of treatment indications and contraindications.
- Proficient in medical documentation, including identification of orders and patient care plan, and in reading and comprehending medical records as they relate to the rehabilitation field.
- Ability to learn and demonstrate knowledge of specific treatment programs (i.e. total hip replacement, back stabilization, exercise programs).
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Current California State Physical Therapist Assistant license preferred
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR Certification required.
