Position: Release of Information Clerk
Location: Naval Health Cherry Point
Hours: Monday- Friday 7:30AM-4:30PM
Qualifications:
• Degree/Education: High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency.
• Experience: At least 1-2 year relevant experience or specialized Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator certification required.
• Work Environment/Physical Requirements: Requirements include prolonged walking, standing, sitting or bending. Must be able to carry 25-50 pounds and reach high shelving units with the assistance of step ladders to retrieve and file medical records.
Unique Military Health Care Systems/Procedures:
• Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA)
• Composite Health Care systems (CHCS) and/or MHS GENESIS
• Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Processes release of information requests in accordance policy and directives. Maintains logs as required.
• Locates and extracts pertinent information from medical files. Locates materials based upon written request for medical information and reports findings to requestors of information.
• Advises patients and agencies such as insurance companies, social services, and medical activities on policies associated with releasing medical information.
• Uses computer software and printing equipment effectively to prepare/develop required documents.
• Prepares documents/packages for pick-up or mailing in accordance with standard protocols and
• requirements.
• Process approximately 2,300 release of information requests yearly in accordance with policy and directives.
• Complete releases on same day of receipt or up to 30 days for extenuating circumstances.
• The Department Head will be notified of all releases not completed within 30 days and the Release of Information Clerk will provide notification to the patient explaining the circumstances for the delay. Delayed releases will be accomplished within an additional 30 days.
• Input all releases into the applicable Government system within one business day of completion.
Hours: Monday- Friday 7:30AM-4:30PM
Typically 8 work hours per workday.
